THE ADVANTAGES OF MODULAR CONSTRUCTION

Modular construction streamlines the design and delivery process and is ideal for projects that require “fast-track” scheduling. Recently used on several REES projects, including the Northfork Correctional Facility, Pollock Federal Correctional Institution, and the Forrest City Federal Correctional Institution, modular construction offers the following advantages:

  • Improved Coordination. With the exception of the completion of utility chases, project coordination is improved through the production of a single source complete cell package.

  • Early Submittal and Review. When utilizing modular construction, the submittal process can begin earlier in the project, allowing units to be constructed much earlier than with traditional construction. Because cells are cast on or near site, the reviewing process is more efficient and there is a decreased chance for damage to units during shipping.
  • Improved Schedules. Quick and efficient placement of modular construction units allows the opportunity to compress timelines and “fast-track” projects. Erection is fast and efficient, resulting in minimized exposure of unenclosed building portions to the elements.
  • Streamlined Project Closeout. Because no other trades enter the cells once they are placed, modular construction also expedites the project closeout process.
