BTV CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Construction of the new Balkan News Corporation Television Headquarters facility in Sophia, Bulgaria is now 30% complete.
Located at the foot of the Vitosha Mountains, the new facility will stand as a symbol of the country’s entrance into the business of modern communication and technology. The building’s dramatic five-story glass lobby, shaped like the prow of a ship, will emphasize the expansive mountain vistas and provide natural light to interior spaces. The 240,000 square foot facility will ultimately house corporate offices, studios, and editing suites featuring state-of-the art technology and equipment.
Additionally, the project will feature several sustainable elements, including vegetated roofs, double-and triple-glazed windows for energy efficiency, water conservation systems, and a flat plate water-cooling system to allow the flow of cooled fresh air through the building interior. The REES team took advantage of the site’s unusual topography, using the slope to visually cloak the incorporation of a 400-car parking garage while respecting the
natural contours of the land.
