BTV CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Construction of the new Balkan News Corporation Headquarters facility in Sophia, Bulgaria is now 30% complete.
Located at the foot of the Vitosha Mountains, the new facility is symbolic of the company taking the next step into mission critical technology. The facility has redundant power and the ability to maintain uninterrupted operation in the event of utility loss. Additionally, the project features several sustainable elements, including vegetated roofs and balconies, double-and triple-glazed windows for energy efficiency, water conservation systems, and a flat plate water-cooling system to allow the flow of cooled fresh air through the building interior.
REES designed the 240,000 sf facility to exploit the site’s dramatic views of the nearby mountains. The full building height entrance atrium is a direct result of the site’s configuration and plays an integral role in bringing natural light into the interior spaces and plays against the windowless studio, editing, and tech workplaces. The REES team also took advantage of the sloped topography to incorporate an out-of-sight underground parking garage for 100 vehicles.
