WPLG RECEIVES AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
The new 67,000 square foot WPLG facility in Miami, Florida is one of six 2010 recipients of the “Excellence in Achievement” award from the Tilt-Up Concrete Association.
A testament to the obstacles that creative design can overcome, the facility seamlessly unites the highly technical demands of a modern broadcast station with attractive, user-friendly aesthetics. The project team selected tilt-up concrete, erected in a sequence of three phases, for its weather-resistance, speed, and cost-effectiveness.
Constructed on a long, narrow, 6-acre L-shaped lot with a green space requirement of 20%, the site posed significant challenges to the design team. Additionally, the facility was designed to meet Category Five hurricane standards – double or more the IBC standard. The building includes a large glass curtainwall that provides increased daylight and views to the building’s occupants.
