MERCY HEALTH CENTER OF OKLAHOMA NICU
The renovated Mercy NICU consists of 16 private rooms and 13 semi-private rooms within approximately 21,000 square feet of space.
The project team worked closely with Mercy’s administration, staff, and physicians to implement the “Recommended Standards for Newborn ICU Design” into the new project. Special attention was given to providing family support areas that encourage and embrace patient-centered care.
By moving away from the traditional open-bay design, the new NICU has reduced sound transmission between the rooms and staff areas and helps to mitigate infection control risks. Additionally, the use of new technology in the unit has improved the chances of a baby’s survival.
“We have more sophisticated ventilators where there is less lung trauma for the babies,” said Mercy Hospital NICU Manager Michele McEver.
REES has been proud to serve the Sisters of Mercy since 1982 and has completed more than 28 projects for the Health System. To learn more about REES’ history of advanced healthcare design, please click here.
