REMEMBER WHEN?

In celebration of REES’ upcoming 30th year attending the National Association of Broadcasters annual conference, we bring you a “Blast from Broadcast Past.”

It was the 1970s, and the broadcast industry:

  • Used film-based equipment for all acquisition and production, as well as film islands;
  • Went from film to quad machines and tape, utilizing large pieces of equipment that took up a lot space and used a lot of power.

In the late ‘70s, REES designed Oklahoma City broadcasting station KAUT-TV – the firm’s first sustainable project. The KAUT facility design incorporated approaches such as building orientation and earth berming, giving the facility the ability to self-heat even when exterior temperatures reach -5 degrees. The project earned an Energy Award from the American Institute of Architects and was a finalist for “Station of the Year” from Broadcast Management / Engineering.

We look forward to seeing you at the NAB annual conference in Las Vegas in 2011, and discussing your future history-making design!
