REES' Creativity Reaches Outside of Office
REES is taking their creativity outside of the office at Lake Hefner in OKC in fact.
REES is known for designing and creating architecturally pleasant spaces for others to occupy and exist in. Due to the existing draught in Oklahoma and the low levels of water at Lake Hefner, a unique opportunity presented itself outside of the REES office. A beach has been created and now used as a large canvas for the REES staff. A small group of individuals discussed and decided to create a sustainable design using natural and local resources on the beach mainly out of pure curiosity. The group wanted to see what a beach design would look like in a year or two when waters recede again.
The creative group discussed possible designs and ended on a simplified scissor-tail fly catcher, the Oklahoma state bird. The design is approximately 105 feet wide and 140 feet long. One of the goals of the group was to be sure not to affect the lake or boats using the lake when the water levels rise once again. They accomplished this by using low profile rocks found around and in the lake.
The group included Steve Stovall, Anna Stovall, Israel Solis, Michael Cromaz, Kate Warren, Chris Pritchard, Ray Ankles, Matt Kron, Libby Rankin, Jennifer Hulsey, Phillip Morton and Bill Yost.
Channel 9 News (KWTV) did a live 4 pm broadcast from the site shortly after the design was created.
