REES: History of an Architectural Firm

In 1999, when REES was in its 24th year, Max Nichols, then the former editor of the Journal Record, a business newspaper published in Oklahoma, recommended a book be written about REES as the firm turned 25 years old. Max made this recommendation to Dr. Bob Blackburn, the president of the Oklahoma Historical Society, who in addition to being a leading historian had also written books about leading citizens and organizations. Mr. Nichols set up a meeting between Dr. Blackburn and Frank Rees. Dr. Blackburn explained that Cottonwood Publications was interested in publishing the work with him as the author and believed that REES would be an interesting topic. Dr. Blackburn wrote the book about REES which today spans the globe having completed assignment in 42 states and 33 countries. The story of REES is more than a corporate biography; it is the story of a dedicated group of people who have shared a unique approach to architecture that starts with collaborative planning and ends with buildings that define their community.
