The new, all digital KMBC-TV facility will increase visibility and awareness in the community in its new office park setting. The facility is situated prominently on the hillside of an 8-acre site. Site planning includes provisions for a large satellite dish farm, covered parking for news/production vehicles, secured parking for staff and a helipad and weather radar tower to be displayed prominently on site.
The 2-story, 55,000 S.F. all digital facility includes a large 5,000 S.F. combination production/news studio. The studio is open to the newsroom to form a large contiguous production space with a working newsroom. A rotating news desk will provide opportunity for numerous news production backdrops and venues. Contributing to the openness of the facility is a sweeping second floor balcony overlooking the newsroom and studio creating views and access to the second floor offices.
Traditional tower elements are a major feature of the Spanish Mediterranean architectural style featured downtown. The microwave tower is incorporated into the conceptual design as the signature design feature and cornerstone for KMBC-TV.
