Media General Broadcast Group

Tampa, Florida

The new WFLA-TV/Tampa Tribune Newsroom facility houses three journalism mediums in a single facility to improve efficiency of operations for a complete and interactive environment.

The project was seen as an opportunity to improve operational efficiency of the Tampa Tribune newspaper and WFLA-TV. Both news operations were joined in one facility, developing new synergies between both groups.

The design focuses around a central atrium that extends from the second floor to the fourth floor. The atrium feature provides a visible connection throughout the building, enhancing employee awareness and connectivity. The atrium was developed in response to Media General’s desire for a unified and interactive environment.

Because of its geographical vulnerability to hurricanes and related storm surge and flooding, the facility was designed to minimize potential loss of operations and expensive equipment. The building can withstand 130 mph hurricane force winds ensuring uninterrupted operations.
