WPXI-TV Station

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The 69,000 s.f. building houses a full complement of state-of-the-art digital broadcasting and production facilities.

With a relationship dating back to 1986, when REES completed a FACILITY BUSINESS PLAN®, WPXI asked REES to do further programming and planning in 2004.

For their new facility, WPXI chose a 17 acre site on the very northern edge of the Pittsburgh city limits. The prominent site presented many unique design challenges, including being surrounded on three sides by residential communities whose residents were reluctant to accept an imposing broadcast facility and 100-foot transmitter tower looming in their backyards.

The 69,000 s.f. building houses a full complement of state-of-the-art digital broadcasting and production facilities, including high definition technology, a production studio, news studio, news room, offices, control rooms, and interior facilities.

As a direct result of the teamwork between WPXI executives and Rees Associates, the new facility is a seamless conglomeration of function and aesthetics that serves the interests of the network, community, and the environment. The building is a statement of the strong presence of WPXI, both as a leader in the broadcast industry and as a member of the Pittsburgh community.

Vice President and General Manager of WPXI-TV, Ray Carter said, “We wanted a great work environment and we got it.”
