This two-story, 50,000-square-foot building supports the cooperative efforts of the Texas Department of Transportation, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office in managing the Dallas Area Transportation System.
The building is built around a two-story control room in which numerous video console station operators monitor traffic and transportation systems using real time dynamic video displays from camera and traffic sensors strategically distributed throughout the Dallas transportation network. The Center also serves as a communication hub and emergency management headquarters primarily during weather-related emergencies that adversely affect the Dallas area transit system.
As a result of the Management Center’s high profile role in the community, this building serves an important public relations and communications function to both the public at large and local area news and press associations. Consequently, much care and attention has been given to the design and appropriate image conveyed in high-profile public areas of the building, such as the main lobby, control room, viewing room overlooking the main control room, training rooms, and the entire exterior of the building.
