Ivan Allen, a 100-year old commercial furniture dealer with offices in several Southeastern cities, had occupied their headquarters in downtown Atlanta for more than 40 years, during which time it ceased to function as a showroom. As a part of a restructuring that included a corporate identity makeover, a new space was located in Midtown Atlanta.

Ivan Allen wanted to project an updated yet understated image that would function for several years without requiring renovation. The new space needed to be not only a working corporate headquarters, but also a showroom for the broad range of products they represent.

REES’ design solution organized the company into a series of “neighborhoods” and “storefronts” along a central “boulevard” that stretches to both ends of the linear floorplate. The result is a non-showroom atmosphere in which a client can display furniture in ways similar to how their
