Impressed by the success of REES’ repositioning of the Atlanta “Silhouette” Building, Colonial Properties Trust engaged REES to provide a design study for the exterior of the Dartmouth Building.
The Client desired to modernize the tired, 1970s-era office building through the use of creative, out-of-the-box solutions. REES’ concepts addressed the potential renovation of the front entry, signage, garden plazas, and rear entry.
Solutions for the front entry included adding new exterior lighting and staining existing concrete to provide a sophisticated feel, as well as adding a floating element wall to frame the entry area and enhance recognizability. Updates to the building’s façade include new, energetically-colored window panels between floors and solar film over all glazing to increase thermal comfort and energy efficiency.
Because the building’s rear entry is the primary employee access point, the team sought to create a comfortable gathering area through the addition of outdoor furniture, illuminated planters, and sculptures. A green screen and new plants will diminish noise pollution from the adjacent highway and add privacy to the area.
