The new (KUSA-TV) 114,000 square foot facility includes below-grade parking, a news studio, a production studio for audience participation, a 10,000 square foot newsroom and 50,000 square feet of supporting technical, office and administrative space.
Incorporated into the design, a 108-foot microwave and clock tower functions as an on-air weather terrace. The major interior circulation routes intersect at an ornamental stair accentuated with a large skylight which offers a glimpse of the microwave tower’s peak.
The exterior masonry materials, their detailing and the fenestration pattern, recall timeless historic buildings of early Denver. The use of various metals at windows and ornamental railings edify Colorado’s mining industry.
