Daniel Webster Elementary School is the largest of four projects REES is working on for the Dallas Independent School District.
Additions will include a two story classroom of approximately 27,800 s.f. containing 18 classrooms, one of those being an elementary school science lab. Other spaces within the building will include Assistant Principal’s Office with clerk space, book storage, student and staff restrooms, a faculty lounge, custodial closets, elevator, miscellaneous storage, and mechanical spaces.
The proposed exterior façade of the building will blend some of the existing school brick colors, along with small amounts of metal panel, and sunscreens to shield the aluminum storefront windows to the classrooms. Clerestory windows are also planned for the first and second floor classrooms, allowing daylight to the spaces without creating a distraction to the students.
The location of the addition to the existing building will have a minimal impact on the day-to-day operations of the existing school allowing the contractor to work freely. Its location will still allow the needed emergency exiting for the students as the structure is coming out of the ground.
