Saint Clare’s Pediatrics Unit Renovation

Rees Associates, Inc. provided architecture and interior design services for the new $3.2 million pediatrics facility at Saint Clare’s Hospital in Denville, New Jersey.

The design for the Saint Clare's Pediatric Unit is a creative adaptive reuse of existing acute care hospital space. Pre-existing conditions such as room sizes, existing walls, code requirements, and room configurations provided a unique challenge for the design team.

REES’ design concepts, which were developed based on input from hospital staff, intentionally deviate from the straight 8 foot wide corridors typically seen in hospitals. Special emphasis was placed on designing the floor and ceiling planes. This design impact was maximized by focusing on the nurses station, family room, and play room. All designs were created around the theme of playfulness.

Additionally, REES placed an emphasis on shape, color, texture and lighting. The Pediatric Unit visually conveys Saint Clare's commitment to providing high quality care in state-of-the-art facilities.
