Mercy Health Center’s Emergency Department functions as a full-service unit providing critical and non-critical care to adult, geriatric, and pediatric patients.
In viewing the importance of ease and timely access to the emergency department and radiology services, the expansion and renovation plans were designed, first and foremost, with seamless patient flow in mind.
Since the year 2005, Mercy’s Emergency Department census has increased by approximately 21%, therefore causing increased patient wait times and decreased patient satisfaction.
The objectives identified for this project in order to solve the clients inconveniences included maintaining and improving the quality of care and effectiveness of the services provided within the Emergency Department, maintaining and enhancing patient and physician satisfaction and reducing the cost of services provided through more efficient operational processes.
The 19,960 s.f. expansion, constructed in four phases, includes an upgrade of the existing spaces, adds a new ED entrance, waiting area, registration discharge area, triage unit, 11 treatment rooms, 5 quick care treatment rooms, office suite, an 8 bay observation area as well as a new CT build-out. The project also consists of the addition of all support and auxiliary spaces.
