This two-story, 50,000-square-foot building supports the cooperative efforts of the Texas Department of Transportation, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office in managing the Dallas Area Transportation System.
It is designed around a two-story control room in which a large staff of operators monitors transportation systems on real-time video displays fed by camera and traffic sensors strategically distributed throughout the city. The Center also serves as a communication hub and emergency management headquarters during weather-related emergencies that might adversely affect the transit system.
As a result of its high profile, this building serves an important public relations and communications function for local area news and press associations. Consequently, much attention has been given to the visual appeal of its exterior and public areas.
