REES led the design team in creating a comprehensive masterplan for a 22 hectare property located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

Costa Rica has become a major tourism destination for adventure while possessing a cost effective and high quality alternative to the US healthcare system. Costa Rica boasts their healthcare system can save travelers approximately one-third of the cost of most elective surgeries.

The masterplan is a blend of senior living and healthcare into one campus development. The client is targeting a very specific demographic by attracting active and adventure-seeking seniors with medium to high incomes who are interested in an eco-friendly lifestyle.

The masterplan includes a healthcare center and full CCRC including assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care and independent living facilities. The community also includes an on-site hotel and retail center. A large multipurpose community center, fitness center, tennis courts, walking trails, a recreational and an aerobic swimming pool are located within the campus. The community center rooftop is designed to be an outdoor entertainment venue with an open air cabana.

The community offers three independent living lifestyle choices - private homes, quadplex units and apartment homes in a resort setting. Each private home is located in a small grouping and boasts a formal gateway entrance.
