REES created a single-story facility that encompasses four distinct areas of residential accommodations. The 160 beds are divided into two 50-bed communities, one 28-bed community and a 32-bed dementia care area.
The communities are typically composed of two distinct smaller areas that house 25 residents, mixing private and semi-private rooms. Central to each neighborhood are activity rooms, dining areas and support functions to serve the needs of the community. Linking the four major pods is a central support building that includes food services, laundry, mechanical and additional communal areas.
The building design takes the program spaces of 76,000 square feet and reduces the apparent size of the facility by articulating the building with porches, trellises, cupolas and lots of windows of different sizes. The residential-style pitched roof creates an approachable, non-intimidating appearance to the large facility.
Each neighborhood has extensive access to outdoor courtyards. Military hardware and children's play areas enrich the different courtyards. Pathways interconnect for a variety of possible routes and the abundant windows give visual access to the surroundings.
